Air – Sing Sang Sung

by MK on September 9, 2009

AIR MUSIC VIDEO SING SANG SONG from MATHEMATIC SAS on Vimeo.

A fantastic trippy ‘lil video for Air’s newest single. Now if they released a companion DVD with videos to all the songs in this visual style, I’d be a happy man.

Love the sparse minimalism inherent in his style and his use of integrated film/video footage. Follow the Vimeo link to see more of his works.

…every frame is coloured in pencil by hand. The sound is from The Shining.

Ohbijou – New Years from explodingmotorcar on Vimeo.

Don’t think we can go a week, let alone a few days without encountering some sort of time-lapse or stop-motion vid popping up. Well, if it works — gotta run with it. Love the art direction in this piece, invoking thoughts of fantasy epics of old like The Dark Crystal or The Neverending Story.

Two Weeks – Grizzly Bear from Gabe Askew on Vimeo.

While I enjoyed the Patrick Daughters’ directed exploding heads video, this Little Big Planet’esque take by Dave Askew just feels more befitting to the single, no?

Txt Island

by MK on August 17, 2009

Chris Gavin’s experimental stop-motion film. Painstakingly hand-crafted using hundreds of plastic peg-board letters. The films follows the endeavours of a squad of letters, as they delve deep into the jungle of a mysterious island. What is their mission? And will they succeed?

Lo-fi and brilliant in its simplicity.

Strawberry Swing

Coldplay continues their legacy of fantastic music videos coupled to mediocre pop songs. Regardless, if this fully-realized animation of a superhero fantasy doesn’t make you smile in some way, you must’ve had a dark dark childhood. Incredible execution, makes me wonder how many animators comprised the production.

The Lost Coin [nsfw]

The Lost Coin from Dan Britt on Vimeo.

Time to get this weekend started on the right foot by doing some drugs and watching The Lost Coin. A motion graphic short that goes through numerous aesthetics that’d be familiar to anyone who grew up through the 90’s. Feels like something belonging on Adult Swim.

Not for those sensitive to flashing lights, but the works of Nicolas Sassoon take the traditional bitmap animation to new grandiose heights.
