halo is a handy light-writing tool, preserving the techniques and gestures that graffiti artists use with spray cans. It is possible to change the color and the brightness of the led to change the graffiti’s styles. If the light doesn’t have enough battery, users simply have to shake it to have energy again.
Pink Floyd members discuss recording “Money”, complete with footage of the original 7/8 intro tape loop and effects mixing. Indescribably awesome. It’s like watching Da Vinci talking about painting the Mona Lisa.
Anyone else think that Blu is imminent for a Bansky-level explosion of popularity? The artist who last year brought us an incredible mindtrip of an urban wall-painted animation has posted up some new works in Grottaglie, Italy — for the Fame Festival. The images above depict a piece commenting on a massive steel factory in nearby Taranto.
this factory is destroying the territory and killing a lot of workers ’cause of its big lack of security measures and high environmental pollution. the direct consequence is that Taranto has one of the highest rate of death by cancer in italy. As a plus, the smartest politicians from Grottaglie’s town council allowed, back in ‘96, the construction of a very filthy special wastes dump right outside the city. they did not inform the people, they did not ask anybody’s opinion, they just did it. i wish i could wonder WHY they did it.
Blake Hicks’s series of portraits of characters from the HBO series, The Wire. You know, that one show everyone tells you is “THE BEST TV SHOW EVER” (It’s true).
A great new online magazine/community has opened up this month, where revolving guest curators share a new artist everday.
Visitors of the online magazine can expect to see a new series of some eight to twenty photos each day. The Black Snapper aims to create an online community that will inspire professionals and photography lovers worldwide and expose new talent. In addition, the online magazine emphatically supports the emancipation and promotion of photographers from Asia, Africa and South America.
The above image was by Shawon Ali whose artist statement mentions her being
influenced by the songs and literature of Bangladesh, in which nature is an important and recurring theme.
StSanders, made famous about a year and a half ago when he unleashed upon Youtube, “shreds” — live performance footage of guitar gods, perfectly overdubbed with utter garbage playing. Words do no justice to describe the hilarity of watching the likes of Slash, Van Halen, and Joe Satriani getting down to these sonic masterpieces. Well he has returned, this time giving the Stones the StSanders-treatment.
Elegantly composed melodies via the Japanese artist Serph. You see some obvious Boards of Canada influences mixed with these well-integrated jazz rhythms. Great listenings and a timely release for the summer.
The premise behind Surtido de Mutaciones is pretty interesting…Basically that IKEA is actually a supplier of raw materials, rather than of finished products. They challenged 35 designers to go to IKEA and to come up with new products that used existing IKEA parts. Everything used in their products had to come from IKEA, including screws, seats, screens, etc.
They range from simple reinventions to elaborate light fixtures. Seeing these really inspires one to get out and try their hand at recombining pieces, because at Ikea prices, what’s stopping you anyway?
